Antimicrobial peptides from animals: focus on invertebrates.
نویسندگان
چکیده
antimicrobial peptides has been isolated from animals and plants during the past two decades. Three novel classes of natural antibiotics (anionic peptides, aromatic dipeptides and processed forms of oxygen-binding proteins) have recently been isolated from different vertebrate and invertebrate species. In this article, we present an overview of natural animal anti-microbials, with an emphasis on those isolated from invertebrates, and discuss their possible use as alternative drugs to chemical antibiotics.

Electrophoretic Pattern and Antibacterial Activity of Proteins from Vicia Faba Seed Extract
ABSTRACT Background Antibiotic resistance makes antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) agents an alternative for treatment of pathogenic diseases. They are isolated from various animals invertebrates, vertebrates and plants. The present study shows the electrophoretic pattern of protein and peptides from Vicia Faba seed and reports our first attempt to study the antibacterial activity of Vicia faba...
متن کاملHuman antimicrobial peptides: analysis and application.
Antimicrobial peptides are innate host defense molecules that have a direct effect on bacteria, fungi and enveloped viruses. They are found in evolutionarily diverse species ranging from prokaryotes and plants to invertebrate and vertebrate animals. Humans express several families of antimicrobial peptides in myeloid cells and on various epithelial surfaces where they are poised to defend again...
متن کاملCockroaches, locusts, and envenomating arthropods: a promising source of antimicrobials
Objective(s): To present a brief overview of various natural sources of antimicrobials with the aim of highlighting invertebrates living in polluted environments as additional sources of antimicrobials. Materials and Methods: A PubMed search using antibacterials, antimicrobials, invertebrates, and natural products as keywords was carried out. In addition, we consulted conference proceedings, or...
متن کاملThe role of antimicrobial peptides in innate immunity.
Production of antimicrobial peptides and proteins is an important means of host defense in eukaryotes. The larger antimicrobial proteins, containing more than 100 amino acids, are often lytic enzymes, nutrient-binding proteins or contain sites that target specific microbial macromolecules. The smaller antimicrobial peptides act largely by disrupting the structure or function of microbial cell m...

Aquaculture contributes more than one-third of the animal protein from marine sources worldwide. A significant proportion of aquaculture products are derived from marine protostomes that are commonly referred to as 'marine invertebrates'. Among them, penaeid shrimp (Ecdysozosoa, Arthropoda) and bivalve molluscs (Lophotrochozoa, Mollusca) are economically important. Mass rearing of arthropods an...
